Abstract: There were times when Branding was only used by the FMCG giants and the mass manufacturers but in the present scenario even the novel sectors like education is not untouched by it. Nowadays this intangible asset called “Brand Image” is turning out to become a huge differentiator and the academic institutes are also realizing its value. This research paper intends to find out the appropriate branding strategies and relevant branding platforms for academic institutes in order to develop an efficient brand management policy for them. Data has been collected by using the primary sources in the form of comprehensive questionnaires primarily aimed at under graduate, graduate and post graduate students. The major intention was to get their perception regarding the factors which lead to effective branding and their expectations from an academic institute before selecting it. The questions have been mostly kept close-ended in order to get specific responses concerned to the subject. The responses have been presented using the graphical method and analysed in a descriptive manner. The results and the analysis depict that there is a high need to build a stronger brand image online rather than offline. Social Media has been identified as an essential platform for branding. The results also portray that students give non-academic factors equal importance to academic factors while selecting an academic institute.
