Abstract: XDP is a new technology for high performance acceleration of network processing. On Large Data centers where rate of incoming packets per seconds are high, fast packet processing and security is needed. It process incoming packets as it arrives on network hardware through which risk of attacks can also be mitigate earlier. It has options to steer packets and can perform various actions on that. XDP uses Extended Berkeley Packet Filter technology to load and process packets in kernel space. A brief introduction of BPF technology with its components and flow is defined in this paper. Later Use of EBpf in XDP with architecture is defined briefly. Comparison of XDP over DPDK gives understanding of need for a new technology. Basic actions and modes of XDP is defined with implementation and with automation, developed on Intel proprietary framework. Lastly virtualization on XDP is performed as a use case of XDP.
