Abstract: Usage of Electric Vehicles is much increased around the globe. Since these vehicles have large batteries, proper power electronics devices are needed. By using them, it is possible to incorporate more than one operation by allowing power to flow bidirectional. During grid failure or peak hour, battery power can be sent back to the grid which is known as a vehicle to grid (V2G). Z-source Inverter is an emerging power electronics device, which is suitable for the vehicle-grid interface as it can perform both buck or boost operations in a single stage of operations without using a transformer. This study shows the Z-source Inverter application for transferring power. It further explores different PWM control techniques like simple boost control, maximum boost control, and third-harmonics maximum boost control. Simulations for all control techniques are done using MATLAB-Simulink. Instead of the PWM technique, further direct power control (DPC) method is developed for ac-dc and dc-ac system.
