Abstract: The anxiety on climate change, the lack of fossil fuels, and the improvements in battery technology have prompt global electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers to invest more to develop and introduce modern EV models. The battery charging study such as its efficiency, the charging time and battery life are determined by the characteristics of the charger circuit. The characteristics such as low cost, less weight, reliability and higher efficiency are considered as necessary parameters for the choice of a topology for the EV charger. The control of the charger circuit depends on the type, components, control strategy used for the converter, switching techniques used, and its overall cost. The control circuit should also be easy and flexible to implement. The first phase of the research focuses on a comparative study of ANN/ FLC based Maximum power point tracking Solar photo-voltaic (PV) system. The comparative study of MPPT includes irradiance changes, temperature change, and load variation. A comprehensive analysis of the dc-dc converter, its control strategy, and battery parameters are covered in the second phase of work. The third phase of the work concentrates on a multi functional, grid integrated, bidirectional charger with a single feedback loop controller.
