dc.description.abstract | A Debt market is the financial market where investors buy and sell debt securities, mostly in the form of bonds. A bond is a fixed income instrument that represents a loan made by an investor to a borrower (typically corporate or governmental. A bond has an end date when the principal of the loan is due to be paid to the bond owner and usually includes the terms for variable or fixed interest payments that will be made by the borrower. Bonds are used by companies, municipalities, states, and sovereign governments to finance projects and operations. Owners of bonds are debt holders, or creditors, of the issuer. These markets are important source of funds. Bond are mainly of three types: Government securities (G-sec), municipal bonds and corporate bonds. Corporate bonds are issued in primary market by private sector or public sector companies to borrow funds. In secondary market bonds are bought and sold. In India, large institutions like mutual fund, provident fund, banks, insurance companies invest in debt market. | en_US |
