Abstract: Today most of the structures tend to be wind-sensitive because of their shapes, slenderness, flexibility, size and lightness which have made Wind Engineering a subject of major concern. The Primary objective of work on this subject is to understand the effect of wind on different structures mainly dynamically sensitive structures (High rise buildings and Reinforced Concrete Chimneys) and to carry out the wind analysis of these structures. To analyze the above mentioned structures by different codes so as to understand their clauses. To carry out the parametric study of the analysis results of the structures by considering different shapes. The comparison of the analysis results obtained as per different codes. Application of ETABS (v-9) and SAP-2000 (v-10) software has simplified the analysis of these structures. The analysis for High Rise Buildings is based on IS: 875 (Part 3), 1987. Both static and dynamic analysis are carried out manually and with the help of ETABS (v-9) software and forces on the building as a whole are calculated. Parametric study with respect to height has shown that as the building becomes slender, the dynamic forces dominate. The analysis of R.C.C. chimney is carried out according to three codes viz., IS: 4998(Part 1):1992, BS: 6399-2:1997 & ACI: 307-5. Three basic shapes i.e., cylindrical, tapered and combined tapered and cylindrical are considered for the analysis and parametric study. Both Along and Across wind analysis has been carried out as they are prone to dynamic oscillations. The analysis is carried out manually and with the help of SAP-2000(v-10) software. A parametric study of the analysis results of the chimney from the above mentioned three codes shows that the tapered shape of chimney is preferred over the other two.
