Abstract: Pulverizer is one of the important unit mill operation which helps in grinding the coal into fine powder. The fineness of the coal plays a major role in combustion chamber. The conventional fuel firing methods were found to be unable to take the fluctuating load due to limited capacity of combustion. These conventional methods were found unsuitable for large capacity power plants. Nowadays, pulverized fuel system are universally used for large capacity plants as it gives high thermal efficiency and better control. The present work inculcates the dynamic modelling of coal pulverizer based on the first principle using mass and heat balance equations. The simulation of the proposed model is done using MATLAB-SIMULINK platform. First, open-loop steady-state simulation is carried out. Next, the Parametric Analysis of each input to the output of the system is carried out and observed the effects. The simulated model is validated and tuned with the practical data from the power plant. After validation closed loop study has been carried out with different tuning Techniques to control the controlled variable (i.e. Outlet Temperature). Effects of Disturbance has been observed and several control strategies has been applied to remove the effects of the Disturbance and delay. Further, advanced control strategies also has been designed for better response.
