Non-linear systems have been a challenge for control engineers since a long time. The aim of this report is to identify different strategies to control a non-linear system satisfactorily. This paper deals with the control strategies to be applied to a conical tank which behaves as a non-linear system. A conical tank shows non-linearity in its model due to its variation in area with respect to its height. Here we will try to control level of liquid to be lled in the conical tank. In order to get a satisfactory response we will need to apply different control strategies to control level of the liquid to be lled in the tank at a desired set point. We will start with a simple on-off control and then we will proceed further towards some control techniques like PI, PID etc. Further control investigation on the system will be made using some advanced model based control strategies. We will try to check the best performance we get by applying these techniques and we will try to have a comparative study about these results. Aim of this project is to build an embedded system using an ARM based controller which will be independent enough to control the level of the tank on its own by using advanced model based control strategies. This will result in reduction of extra apparatus and computers needed along with the conventional systems and hence a more compact system can be build.en_US
