Abstract: Water treatment plants are designed on a unit operation concept in which one unit is optimized to accomplished one task. Modelling and simulation of water treatment processes have gained increasingly attention within past years. In particular, standardized mathematical models are implemented on the simulation environment and used for process equipment design, efficient and optimized operational controls and further research for different processes. In this work, a mathematical modelling of sedimentation process in a typical waste water treatment plant has been developed and simulated using Matlab-Simulink framework. The model used to carry out a systematic study to understand the process behaviour, and to investigate the effect of changes in various relevant process variables and parameters on the process performance. The result obtained with the proposed model are presented and a comparison is made between the distributed source model and model that includes only one layer in the feed zone. Also, for validation of the model "Common effluent treatment plant-VATVA" site has been selected. For validation purpose required changes has been applied to developed model.
