Abstract: With the increase in interest in the Internet of Things, dense device environment employment may raise a need to deal with channel contention problems. Also, since not all devices are required to operate continuously, keeping them in doze mode when not required helps in saving a great deal of power. In the process of Target Wake Time (TWT), the device Wants to negotiate to the access point, whenever it will be transmitting and receiving the data, otherwise, it is in the doze mode. In this paper, we do a comparative study of IEEE power save with PS-Poll mechanism and TWT in terms of throughput and power consumption. The results show that as we increase the number of users connected to network, the throughput numbers start improving in case of TWT as compared to legacy PS- Poll power save mechanism. Furthermore, by calculating the current consumption of devices we showed that more power saved on devices with TWT as compared to the PS-Poll power save mechanism.
