Abstract: The goal of this project is to conduct Value Stream Mapping of Final Production Assembly line of metro-rail project which consists of 10 stations and to gauge the current performance in terms of hours consumed at each station. Another goal is to calculate the amount of manpower and takt time of the entire assembly line. Moreover the aim of the project is to achieve an increase in production efficiency of assembly line and to decrease the time spent in learning curve. To achieve the goal of the project, Value Stream Mapping is used as a tool to improve the productivity and decrease material spending cost by eliminating wastage in movements and material. This is achieved through a step-by-step process which first includes current state mapping (CSM). For the CSM, first it is required to calculate the exact time spent on each station in each activity by segregating the value added and non-value-added time. This is achieved by doing time study of each activity at each station. Current stream map is charted to brainstorm ideas and discuss solutions to reduce waste and further decrease manhours. Based on the project requirement and possible solutions, future stream map is charted as an end goal and to decide a percentage of achievable increase in production output.
