Abstract: The aims of project are design and analysis of automatic lifting and turning fixture for pressure vessels for weight 80 MT. As a part of this thesis various critical component namely, column, lead screw, circular frame, arm rest, slewing rings, gear motors, and winch/hoist are designed. The selection of materials for critical parts is based on specific requirements. The primary objective of this project is to develop a mechanism capable of lifting and turning the pressure vessels with ease. Diameter of pressure vessel vary from 6 meters to 12 meters. During the design process, the working envelope of the mechanism and the available shop floor space are also taken into consideration. All components of the mechanism are modelled and assembled using Solid Edge 22, a CAD software. Finite element analysis is conducted using Ansys Workbench 19 and Siemens NX 12. Furthermore, an analytical approach is employed to solve certain component problems such as lead screw, column, selection of slewing ring, selection of linear motion guideways and some bolting arrangements. The outcome of this project holds the significant potential which offers the reliable and user-friendly solution for lifting and turning fixture. This fixture allows it to accommodate the various sizes and shapes. In conclusion, this project presents a novel design and development of an automatic lifting and turning fixture specifically tailored for pressure vessels. By addressing the challenges associated with their maintenance and inspection, the fixture offers a safer, more efficient, and less time consumption solution for industries relying on pressure vessels.
