dc.description.sponsorship | The correlation between music and architecture has long captivated the attention of researchers, eliciting numerous investigations. Various parallels have been established, emphasizing similarities such as melody, harmony, rhythm, creativity, and emotional impact, as both disciplines offer profoundly sensorial encounters. These connections manifest in both tangible and intangible manners. There exists a notable subset of individuals who transition from architectural practice to becoming musicians or vice versa, highlighting the inherent affinity between the two domains. Pioneer architects such as Le Corbusier, Daniel Libeskind, Steven Holl, Louis Kahn, and Frank Lloyd Wright have extensively deliberated upon the correlation between music and architecture, articulating their thoughts through diverse mediums. Some have conveyed their ideas in written form as theoretical discourses, while others have materialized them in realized projects that embody musical concepts. These endeavours encompass a spectrum of interpretations of musical compositions and abstract expressions of musical ideals. This thesis aims to untangle and elucidate the intricacies of this relationship within the works of Le Corbusier, with a particular focus on the Indian context. The thesis attempts to unravel this relationship in the works of Le Corbusier, specifically in the Indian context and attempts to derive music out of architecture in two forms. One, through the depiction of the facade as layered sounds and second, the translation of the experience of the building into a musical composition.
