Doab, the land parcel between the Ganga Yamuna River, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, is one of the most fertile regions of the country. It has been at the core of all major empress of the Indian subcontinent, filled with history, culture and heritage. Still, it remains a blur in the eyes of the general populous and insufficiently documented for its heritage. The study is an attempt to understand this region from a historic point of view and its cultural significance in the larger context. The main focus of the study is the smaller region of Etah, a district in the central Doab subdivision of Doab, beside the district of Aligarh and within the cultural region of Braj. The thesis aims to explore and determine the cultural importance of the region by examining various aspects of the region. This includes delving into the broader historical context, local history, mythology, myths, local traditions, rituals, folklore, the evolution of the region, architectural features, literature and the current status of the region, to assess its significance and values. The idea is to understand the smaller Etah region and understand its impact on the larger Doab region. The study also endeavours to unveil unexplored culturally significant assets of the region, for further in-depth research, documentation and preservation.en_US
