Abstract: This research thesis delves into the unique characteristics of urban villages within the context of rapid urbanization in India, focusing on the Moraiya village near Ahmedabad. The study aims to understand the spatial characteristics, morphology, and socio-economic impact of these settlements. By analyzing the spatial dynamics, residential patterns, and livelihoods of the multi-cultured residents, the research sheds light on the coexistence of urban and rural elements within the boundaries of Ahmedabad. The methodology combines quantitative and qualitative approaches, including data analysis on density, accessibility, functional mix, and urban interface, along with field observations, mapping, interviews, and visual documentation. The paper's framework breaks down urban morphology into key components like Density, Accessibility, Functional Combination, and Urban Edge, providing a comprehensive view of the village's structure. This research provides insights into the dynamics of urban villages amid fast urbanization and advances our understanding of the complex interaction between urban and rural aspects in the changing urban landscape.
