Antonio Gaudi's architectural legacy stands as a testament to innovation and creativity within the realm of modernist architecture. This thesis conducts a comparative analysis focusing on the evolution of Gaudi's design language as reflected in the facades and roofs of selected Casa structures. By examining notable examples such as, Casa Mila, Casa Vicens, and Palau Guell, this research traces the progression of Gaudi's architectural style from its early influences to its mature expression. Through a combination of visual analysis, historical contextualization, and architectural theory, the study sheds light on the aesthetic and structural transformations evident in Gaudi's work over time. From the ornate and whimsical elements and sculptural forms of Casa Mila's rooftop, each Casa serves as a chapter in Gaudi's design narrative, revealing his evolving experimentation with form, function, and symbolism. Moreover, this research delves into Gaudi's formative years, exploring the influences and experiences that shaped his design sensibilities from childhood to adulthood. Drawing on biographical accounts and archival materials, the study investigates the impact of factors such as his upbringing in Catalonia, his exposure to nature and religious imagery, and his training as an architect. These formative experiences laid the groundwork for Gaudi's later architectural innovations, informing his unique synthesis of tradition and innovation, spirituality, and rationality. Furthermore, the research explores the broader socio-cultural and architectural context in which Gaudi lived and worked. From the Catalan Modernism movement to the technological advancements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, various external factors exerted influence on Gaudi's design philosophy and practice. By situating Gaudi's work within this rich tapestry of influences, the study offers a nuanced understanding of his architectural evolution. By unravelling the intricate layers of Gaudi's architectural evolution, this thesis offers valuable insights into the broader discourse surrounding modernist architecture and the enduring relevance of Gaudi's design principles in contemporary architectural practice. As we delve into the intricacies of Gaudi's Casa facades and roofs, we gain a deeper appreciation for his visionary genius and his lasting impact on the architectural landscape.en_US
