Abstract: | Material handling is a field that plays a crucial role in the development of society's infrastructure. The advancement of technology has led to changes in various aspects of material handling, such as design performance. Material handling equipment (M.H.E.) reduces the complexity of the lifting and transporting of such heavy weights during manufacturing and installation operations. Gantry crane is a type of material handling equipment that is employed to lift and transfer the weights in tonnage. It consists of various components such as girders, hoists, crabs, rails, etc. These components serve their purpose in the form of lifting and transferring the load. But the girder is a component that comes under complex loading conditions. This project deals with the design and analysis of the girder in Solidworks software, which is also known as the superstructure of a gantry crane. This design is done according to Indian standards. The static structural analysis was done in the ANSYS workbench. Eigenvalue buckling analysis was also performed, and the results of the analysis were obtained, which validated the safety and stability of the crane during the wheel load of 2 tonnes, which happens to be 19620 N at 4 different locations in the -Y direction. Transient analysis was performed in ANSYS workbench, in which swaying load was also considered and results were near to the ones which calculated in keeping international standards in mind. |
