Abstract: An Ammunition Handling System (AHS) is a critical component within military and defence establishments, designed to efficiently and safely manage the storage, transportation, and deployment of ammunition. This system plays a pivotal role in ensuring the readiness and effectiveness of the armed forces. The primary objectives of an AHS include enhancing operational efficiency, minimizing risks associated with handling ammunition, and maintaining a secure and controlled environment. Automation in the handling process contributes to swift and precise operations, reducing manual labour requirements and potential human errors. The mentioned ammunition handling system is designed for a storage capacity of 130 ammunition with a firing rate of 5 ammunition per second. For this, a 24A roller chain link (ANSI 120) was designed to drive the conveyor system. The ammunition was stationed between the two-spacer rod and constrained its motion using a Teflon plate making it free-flowing inside the system. An automated loading system was designed that works on a push-pull mechanism using series of three cams where they lift the ammunition from the feeding tray to the conveyor system.
