dc.description.abstract | Architecture in India began with a search for new identity during the post-independence era. This gave architects a chance for looking back at Indian history and culture while also allowing to move forward and adapting features from the present. This study discusses about the background, architectural approaches and influences of architect Romi Khosla in his works during 1975-2000. It aims to offer an understanding into creation of an architectural impression with the help of influences and connecting it with history and culture to create a new architectural language. An intent of exploring such unique idea and personality has inspired this study. The study reveals architect’s search for architecture that was more relevant for India with multiple communities, identities and rooted to the immediate environment of project’s locations. Charles Jencks' Framework of postmodern architecture is used for understanding the philosophy of architects. The study analyses project drawings using methods like plan to section relation, geometry, repetitive to unique, unit to whole, symmetry & balance, additive and subtractive. Results reveal that each of the architect’s built works evoke their own images and associations due to which buildings remain uneven in style. It concludes with author’s interpretation and analytical diagrams for the selected projects. This research helps in establishing a link between philosophy, influences and practice of Romi Khosla.
