Abstract: | Forts hold a significant place in human history, serving as crucial monuments that not only protected territories but were also centres of governance, trade, and culture. These were living structures that had stood for long periods and evolved with coming rulers, cultures, and generations. The spaces have evolved catering to the needs of the inhabitants. The fortified structures hold layers of History and evolution in time and space. The architectural evolution of the fort and its spatial narratives about its organization is a study in a unique sense. The research explores the relationship between spatial order and built form within the architectural context of Mehrangarh Fort, situated in Jodhpur, India. Mehrangarh Fort stands out as a unique architectural example characterized by its hierarchical spatial order. The study investigates the relationship between spatial order and built form through topography, hierarchy of spaces and courtyards. The insights from this study contribute to a deeper understanding of historical architecture, emphasizing the relationship between spatial order and the built form of the forts. The research also helps to break down and understand the complex architecture of forts in simpler terms. The research shall opt for qualitative research methodology to study the spatial structure of the fort from the archival data and lived experiences of the Royal family and tourists. The study shall attempt to establish the relationship between spatial order and social hierarchy in Mehrangadh fort. The modulations in the built form shall explain the spatial configuration of the fort. The study tries to analyse various layers of organization and history over time for Mehrangarh fort. |
