This project analyzes the application of modular multilevel converters (MMC) in electric vehicle (EV) charging systems. It focuses on how the modulation technique used in MMC affects factors like efficiency and reliability. The study addresses common issues with MMC, such as circulating current and capacitor voltage imbalances, and proposes solutions like integrating arm inductors and advanced control algorithms. The 5-level MMC consists of 24 sub modules organized into three phases, each phase having two arms, and each arm having four sub modules and one inductor. The project emphasizes the importance of selecting appropriate inductors and capacitors for optimal performance. To improve efficiency, space vector pulse width modulation (PWM) control methods are employed, known for their ability to enhance power conversion and reduce harmonic distortion. MATLAB Simulink is utilized for developing the simulation model, providing a stable platform for designing and analyzing the converter’s behavior. Through this study, a better understanding of the practical application and control strategies of MMC in EV charging systems is achieved, contributing to the advancement of sustainable transportation technologies.en_US
