The term ‘organic’ denotes a harmonious relationship between the elements of a whole, something that belongs there because it is its natural place. According to Wright, “the ideal of an organic architecture… is a sentient, rational building that would owe its ‘style’ to the integrity with which it was individually fashioned to serve its particular purpose—a ‘thinking’ as well as ’feeling’ process.” Being one of the pioneer of organic architecture in modern period, the study of his values and principles is very vital. The thesis majorly discusses the organic principles of Frank Lloyd Wright and the theory through the works of his disciples. The study of Wright’s dispositions is important to understand the ultimate goal of organic architecture i.e. the connection between human, architecture and nature. Wright’s aim was to generate a philosophy of building that could inspire and guide architects and laymen long into the future. FLW’s dispositions and thoughts which formed his architecture were revolutionary and should be emulated for many contemporary architects in order not lose the values and his philosophy of architecture by using digital programming and eliminating the integration of man, nature and architecture. The study inquires the same in India through the works of Nari Gandhi whose philosophies even further talked about the connection with nature in context of Indian climate and culture. An inquiry into the case studies will be done which includes a project of Frank Lloyd Wright to analyse his style of organic architecture and understand his principles followed by study of the projects by Ar. Nari Gandhi and Ar. Shirish Beri to analyse the hold of Wright’s ideas on Indian architecture over the years. This paper is basically a comparative study to assess Wright’s dispositions of organic architecture and their influence on the residential architecture in India in today’s time. The parameters used for analysing Organic works revolves around the principles of Wright’s organic architecture – Simplicity and Repose, Continuity and plasticity, Inside outside relationship and lastly Materials and Building Technology. The study also aims to determine other design aspects that have been considered to connect nature and architecture considering the climate changes along with technological advancement. This thesis will act as a catalyst to the future architects by following the derived parameters which will form a guideline in order to practice organic architecture and design on the basis of Wright’s dispositions.en_US
