dc.description.abstract | The minimalism movement is known as a style of the 1960s which was being in America in the field of visual art and music. The main attribute of minimalist art is reduced to its necessity. Today, it can be found not only in architecture but also in fashion, music, literature and upholstery. Simple geometric form, straight lines and plain surfaces are prominent elements of minimalism movement. The architects in tended to create simplicity, transparency, and spirituality in their work, minimalism became popular. The space interacts with nature It puts the user in an atmosphere of dedication, asceticism and silence. The minimalist movement strives to maintain just the most important components of art while eliminating the rest. After world war II because of destruction and an unstable economy, many architects adopted the use of simple form and design but all of them did not know as minimalist architects. Louis Kahn was a very important modern architect in the United States after World War II. Based in Philadelphia, he is known for his monumental and brutal style, emphasizing the materials used in the construction of the building. He constantly strived to create a space that evokes a sense of spirituality. Kahn’s works define time less architecture. The paper tries to uncover the similarity between the philosophy of “minimalism” and Kahn’s philosophy by analyzing the works of Louis Kahn and minimalist architecture. | en_US |
