Abstract: Modern industry arose in the mid-nineteenth century. During the 17th and 18th centuries, India was considered "the world's industrial workshop." India's textile industry is currently one of the world's largest, with a significant raw material base and production capabilities across the value chain. With over 45 million people directly employed in 2018-19, it is one of the country's main sources of job creation. Different research studies have investigated the potential relationship between light and space in various architectural functions, demonstrating how the natural environment impacts individuals on a daily basis. This thesis would inquire upon the current scenario of textile industrial building. This would be carried out by primary and secondary case studies. It would focus upon on design and architecture of the industrial building. And how it affects the workers and their working space. Also, how the present-day working environment in the textile industries could be enhanced with the introduction of natural light. And how with the use of more natural light, a building could become environment friendly and respond to the current climatic challenges. The thesis would incorporate the literature regarding the interdisciplinary relationship between natural light, space and humans. With the help of case studies, all the different activities which are carried out in the textile industry and their lighting requirements are mapped out.An analytical study of the textile industrial buildings is carried out to observe the impact of natural light on the overall space. With the help of surveys, the study also focuses on the qualitative aspect of light and its impact on the workers. The research demonstrates the importance of designing an industrial space with natural light as a key component. It also analyses its impact on the workers, and the overall design. And would help the designers to incorporate certain design elements for improving the working environment and make the building environment friendly.
