Interpreting works of Richard Rogers as Apogee to Ideas of Archigram

Abstract

Archigram was a group of six architects based in London that developed architectural projects, and published them under the name Amazing Archigram during 1960-70s. Showcasing the extensive use of technology and mechanisation, the projects were radical concepts adhering to the impulse of the electronic age. With the changing social and cultural environment and developments in technology, it suggested that architecture had a moral duty to address these changes. These works through the radically bold ideas are believed to have influenced the movement known as Structural expressionism (also commonly known as high-tech architecture) and postmodernism that came during the 1970s and 1980s. The premise of the thesis is to understand the works of Archigram as zeitgeist addressing the transformation and the influences it had on the architecture of Richard Rogers, and draw a formal comparison between the two.
