Abstract: The requirements of electric power conversion system are normally meet by ac/dc/ac conversion. The ac/dc/ac converter although provides unity power factor to the source and very low distortion o/p three phase voltage but are very bulky due to reactive component particularly filter capacitor in DC link. The aim of this project is to develop a high efficiency electric power conversion system. Implemented concept of matrix converter provides very simple control circuit. Matrix converter provides direct conversion of ac to ac conversion without any DC link, which contribute to a compact size and can work with unity power factor. In matrix converter nine switches are used so that losses are less. Independent control or rectification and inversion provide simple control logic and independent control of input and output power factor control. The model of Matrix converter, which is to be worked on principle of the Rodriguez based on the “fictitious dc link”, has to be implemented for 3-phase 230 V, 50 Hz to 1-phase 30 Hz conversions. Simulation and experimental verifications is to be obtained for 3-phase 25 V, 50 Hz to 1-phase 30 Hz conversions. In this project, simulation of matrix converter, hardware design of control circuit, design and testing of power circuit has been done.
