Compression is an utmost need with the growing communication all over the globe. Compression techniques have been designed since long and the newer and newer techniques have evolved over the past few years. We have tried to add one more dimension to the 2D-DCT transformation. That is a 3D DCT is implemented over the multimedia data. The multimedia data could consist of audio, image and video sequences. The use of mathematical equations of Discrete Cosine Transform in video compression is fully exploited during the implementation phase. A 2D image sequences when put together will form a video sequence. Considering the same as our base, we extended 2D DCT by adding one more dimension with respect to time forming a 3D DCT. Experimental results obtained are preserving the energy in the low and mid frequency region of the spectrum and the compression ratio obtained is also noticeable.en
