This project report includes the design and development of high voltage DC power supply. Various applications of the project are Charge particle acceleration, Laser systems, HV power supplies, Air Ionizers, X-ray systems, scientific instrumentation. With the growth of the nuclear physics and pulsed power field applications tremendously, it has become necessary to develop compact high voltage power supply driven by portable batteries. With this objective, a compact and portable 140 kV, DC-to-DC Converter has been developed. The high voltage generation scheme uses a hybrid approach. In the first stage 12V DC is converted into 24 volts (peak to peak) by the inverter using full bridge topology. Now, these 24 volts (peak to peak) at frequency of 10 kHz is stepped up by using high voltage high frequency transformer and at the output 14.7 kV (peak to peak) is available. Now using Cockroft-Walton multiplier circuit the high voltage AC is converted into DC and depending upon the number of stages, the DC voltage is added up and finally high voltage is available at the output. In this project 11 stages of the multiplier circuit is used and the output obtained is 140 kV DC. The high DC voltage available at the output has various applications in nuclear physics and pulsed power applications.en
