Abstract: | The use of sheet metal forming simulations has reduced lead-times and costs for the development of new forming Component signicantly. At present the industrial prac- tice demands a reliable determination of forming limits which assures the prediction of properly selecting the forming process in a digital environment. In industrial use of the FLDs a single basic FLD for a certain material can be used for all gauges. This is possible when it is realized that the eect of sheet thickness on the limit strains is apparent and forming behavior caused by the change in the thickness. Therefore, fac- tors aecting forming limit diagram should be analyzed for proper use of FLD leading to optimization of material .For fracture prediction, forming limit diagram (FLD) is now in widespread use to evaluate the feasibility of a stamped part. However, they still present the major drawback of a test-intensive determination procedure. In par- ticular, experimental FLD needs to be determined for each thickness. The accuracy of the simulations is to a large extent dependent on the quality of the material properties provided as input to the simulations. This study is focused on the forming limit properties of AISI 1008 sheet metal. Dierent FLDs are compared by varying the parameters using theoretical and empirical equations with experimental and software results .In the present work, the factors aecting the limit strains are critically discussed and the generally accepted dependence of the limit strains on the sheet thickness is shown to be the criterion of the limit strain.Finite Element Simu- lations of Limit Dome Height Test have been performed in order to nd the FLD. In the Experimental work, Limiting Dome Height Test and Erichsen test are performed for nding the FLD. |
