dc.description.abstractHeavy Engineering is related to manufacturing of Process equipment, reactors defense and aerospace jobs, ship building etc. Process Equipment essentially consists of shell, nozzles, anges, Dish' ends and many other supporting components. Out of these components dish' end is one of the critical components in terms of its manufacturing procedure. Operations like Electros lag Strip Cladding , SAW and grinding are carried out on Dish' end by welding positioner. There is limited number of welding positioners as compared to job requirement. Enhance its manufacturing capability and to remove manufacturing constraints by adding more welding positioners. Positioners are mainly used to manipulate and position the Jobs for 1G position for easy down hand welding, independent of operator's skill. Once the job is loaded it can be manipulated conveniently to complete all the welding operations in down hand position. This reduces handling time and frequent use of crane. The job can be tilted from 0 to 360 and also rotated from 0 to 360 which are depending on the requirement of speci c location of welding. This project is related to design and analysis of 100 tonne welding positioner. This design includes design of horizontal boom, design of rotational gear box, selection of slewing ring bearing, selection of rotational motor, selection of brake for rotation, design of tilting structure, design of tilting gear box, selection of tilting motor, selec- tion of brake for tilting etc. Then From driving dimensions to make G.A. Drawing (General Arrangement Drawing) for manufacturing welding positioner. Also 3-D components and assembly have been carried out by using Solid Edge ST Software. Then also 2-D manufacturing drawings have been carried out by using Solid Edge ST Software. Then excel sheet of shaft design, gear design and horizontal boom are prepared.en
