Abstract: Global System for Mobile communications is a digital cellular communications system called as GSM. In wireless communication technology, quality of voice output at destination depends on the channel condition. Bad channel condition will produce distortion in the voice output and hence degrades the voice quality. Low bit rate modes is used in a bad channel condition to allow more bits for channel coding, while high bit rate on the contrary. Various speech coding techniques, such as LPC and RPE-LTP are used in di erent applications. MATLAB simulation is used to observe and calculate errors occur in the GSM transmitter and receiver system. In these report, the fundamental challenges and the basic issues in speech coder design are discussed. The important speech coding techniques and standards with current and future applications also described. The speech coding techniques are presented and their properties, such as performance, complexity, and coding delay are analyzed. I have implemented GSM speech codec LPC and RPE-LTP in a MATLAB. GSM Transmitter and Receiver is implemented in MATLAB Simulink and it is found that the transmitted data is being received properly with an bit error rate of 0.004712.
