Conventional AC voltage regulators were using servo-motor for controlling the position of autotransformer or phase controlled thyristor. It had low dynamic response and introduce large amount of harmonic in supply line. However these drawbacks can be overcome by using PWM techniques in AC voltage regulator. An IGBT based automatic voltage regulator is a kind of ac voltage regulator which adopts high switching frequency PWM techniques and can do voltage regulation with wide range of supply fluctuation. In this regulator a buck-boost transformer connected in series between supply and load is used to keep output voltage constant. The error voltage will be generated by the IGBT module. The report of the major project is based on the performance of IGBT based power module used for static automatic voltage regulator. A power module having two stage of conversion is proposed for obtaining the required error voltage. In conventionally available voltage regulator having servo controlled auto transformer for obtaining required error voltage give larger response time to the fluctuation in supply voltage. The design of components required for development of this power module such as boost inductor, dc link capacitor, heatsink, etc. is carried out. The fabrication of IGBT based gate driver circuit and dead band circuit is performed. The gate driver circuit results are obtained after the fabrication of the PCB. The results are obtained for the normal working condition. The obtained results show the required performance of the gate driver circuit and the dead band III circuit. The open loop test of both converter and inverter is performed. To understand the circuit in proper manner all the components are tested and the results for the same are obtained as per requirement.en
