This project embodies a novel design and hardware development of a coreless induc- tion heater of 1.5 kW, 25 kHz rating, which is to be operated from 1-_, 230 V supply, for the surface hardening of particularly smaller mechanical parts like ball-bearing, small spring, small metallic rod etc. in order to improve their wear behariour. The proposed induction heater would be useful to Small Scale Industries (SSI), econom- ically and reliability point of view. Therefore, microcontroller-based control of the induction heater is preferred. The project encompasses various stages like design of power circuit, design of high frequency transformer, design of microcontroller-based timer and design of microcontroller-based control card to control the induction heater system. The induction heater is tested and results are found satisfactorily.en
