Abstract: Owing to requirement of modem society, high frequency, eciency and comfort of work and living, modem elevators require more and more sophisticated drive require- ment, such as permissible load, travel velocity, landing precision, passenger comfort, low energy consumption and linear toque control etc. All traditional control systems, such as DC motor drive, variable-poles AC motor drive, variable-voltage AC motor drive and VVVF AC motor drive cannot satisfy the requirement of modem elevator. The low-speed gearless permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is a hot topic in techniques for modem elevator drive in recent years in the world. Variable-poles two-speed AC motor, VVVF controlled DC motor and PMSM drive system has pre- sented tradition-breaking improvement compare with hydraulic system. Nonetheless, in electric drive system, the perfect performance of lower-speed gearless PMSM is incomparable. The thesis is based on the FOC (Field Oriented Control) of PMSM motor using dsPIC30F4011/6010A. A ux-weakening technique can be applied when extension of motor speed beyond the base speed is desired. The FOC with its ux/torque decoupling feature is realized with the digital PWM controller in rotating d-q coor- dinate system. This kind of control requires relative powerful controller along with the DSP features and relative peripherals to make the vector control practical propo- sition. The DSC board used, dsPIC30f4011/6010A programmed using MPLAB IDE and C-compiler software for this type of drive applications. This report gives the brief idea about eld oriented control technique of PMSM, application of PMSM, space vector PWM, software implementation of FOC and design and fabrication of proto type motor control board.Comparision of simulated and actual hardware results are shown which is as per requirement. Relation between speed-torque characteristic of result is described. In this report 5.5 KW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor is considered for the elevator and FOC is successfully implemented on 2hp Induction motor with necessary changes in the program.
