Abstract: In modern variable speed drives the demand is for a precise and continuous control of speed with long term stability and good transient performance. Because of advances in power electronics and control technologies the ac variable-speed motor drive system is being used in an ever- broadening range of applications. A cycloconverter is a power electronic converter, which is used to convert constant voltage constant frequency AC power to adjustable voltage adjustable frequency AC power. The main advantage of the cycloconverter being that it can provide directs frequency conversion without the requirement for a dc link. Now a day, speed control of induction motor less than the supply frequency, is needed in many applications. Bridge type cycloconverter is used for the speed control of the induction motor which gives minimum harmonics, supply flicker and shaft pulsations. This project presents the analysis and fabrication of single phase bridge type cycloconverter to control the output voltage and output frequency for frequency lower than the supply frequency with minimum misfiring of thyristor problem and accurate output voltage control.
