Abstract: Road transport is a major source of air pollutant emissions. Moreover, vehicle exhausts have been the cause of much concern about the effects of urban air pollution on human health. Local authorities need to develop strategies to control vehicular emissions through technological and socioeconomical measures. This paper discusses automotive emission, its characteristics, emissions from gasoline and diesel engine with its control technologies. However, new emission control technologies are still being developed to meet even more stringent mobile source (gasoline and diesel) emissions. Automotive three ways catalyst (TWCs) used in catalytic converter as after treatment of vehicle engines is increasingly employed to the benefits of the environment to control exhaust emission that can satisfy the more stringent norms for mobile source. This paper also discusses catalytic converter and its limitations. Keywords: Catalytic converters, three way catalyst, automotive emission control, diesel engine, gasoline engine
