Abstract: | This Computing is now not limited to desktops and laptops, it has found its way into mobile devices like palm tops and even cell phones. But what has not charged for the last 50 or so odd years is the input device, the good old QWERTY keyboard. To solve this problem, we proposed a Virtual Keyboard. This device will replace a physical keypad with a customizable keyboard printed on a standard A4 size paper whose “Keystrokes” are read and translated to real input. Uses sensor technology and artificial intelligence to let users work on any flat surface, such as desktops, airplane tray tables, kitchen counters, etc. and can theoretically be interfaced with any computing device that requires text entry like Smart Phones, laptop, computer and PDAs. This would eliminate the need to carry anything around and also prevent any chance of mechanical damage to keypad in harsh environments if a simple lamination is used to protect the paper. In addition, buttons on this device can be reconfigured on-the-fly to give a new keyboard layout by changing software. Used with Smart Phones and PDAs, the provides a practical way to do email, word processing and spreadsheet tasks, allowing the user to leave the laptop computer at home. |
