Abstract: Reciprocating gas compressor widely used in industries like process plant, manufacturing unit, oil and distribution industry etc. Reciprocating gas compressor has complex structure for satisfying API-618 standards requirements under different capacity and loading conditions. This report is aimed to obtain the performance and sizing calculation, FEM analysis of reciprocating gas compressor cylinder is carried out. Unsteady state analysis of compression cycle of CNG gas compressor cylinder is carried out. The mass energy balance equation was applied to the gas inside the cylinder to determine the mass, pressure and temperature behavior through the compression process. The loads and boundary conditions are applied on model of cylinder from that check the strength of the cylinder. Double acting reciprocating gas compressor cylinder has inbuilt valvepockets and gas passages. The valves pocket has specific lips angle. At intersection of valvepocket and cylinder bore, maximum hoop stress concentration factor is found.
