dc.description.abstract | India is the 20th largest maritime country in the world. Its strategic location of a long coastline that make it a major maritime nation. Also, Gujarat maritime sector is considered to be the most proactive and well developed sectors of India. With the development of oil and gas, chemical and power industry there is huge demand to transfer bulk cargo. This demand can be ful lled with development of ports. Berths or Jetties are important port structures. It is a transit point where ocean and land transport meet. For this kind of structures most important is to predict the forces acting and possi- ble worst load combination. Here, attempt is carried out for analysis and design of Berthing structure. Various forces using prevailing guideline like Indian standards, British standards, PIANC guidelines and API manuals have been studied. Various forces like berthing force, mooring force, wave force, seismic force, dead load, live load, hydrodynamics etc. are calculated and this forces are applied to 3-D structure using STAAD-pro. For berthing structure lateral load is critical. The main objective of the study is to analyze the berthing structure like jetty under action of various forces/loads acting on it with various load combinations. Use of software like STAAD-pro will be made to analyze the structure for various forces and various load combinations. In the present study Berthing structure has been analyzed and designed. For this purpose one problem from Mundra has been taken. This has been analyzed using STAAD-Pro and designed using various guidelines. Various parametric study on berthing structure are to be carried out. Parameter like vi material, type of slope condition and type of inclination have been studied. Raker pile is more suitable for berthing structure as it experiences large lateral load. Study of soil structure interaction has been done using Newmark's method of soil sti ness distribution. Considering soil sti ness as spring by Newmark's distribution forces value decreases and gives more economical design. The content of major project is divided in various chapters. Chapter 1 includes introduction of various maritime structure and related terms. Chapter 2 includes literature review of various guidelines, standards, research paper require for berthing structure. Chapter 3 includes understanding of various forces and its behavior by di erent codes. Chapter 4 includes detail force calculations and analysis of berthing structure . Chapter 5 includes design of various components of berthing structure like piles, pile cap, beams and deck slab. Chapter 6 includes parametric studies like di erent material, inclination and di erent slope condition. Soil structure interaction using Newmark's distribution has been included. Chapter 7 includes Summary and conclusions and also future scope of work. | en_US |
