Since FCC released the extremely wide spectrum with emission masks for com- mercial ultra-wideband (UWB) applications in the year 2002, much e ort of research and development has been paid for the design of UWB antennas for a variety of applications from wired and wireless communication to non-communication. Many UWB antennas have been developed to cover the ultra-wide operating bandwidth of the UWB systems with acceptable performance. This report is an M.Tech. dissertation thesis of a project on Design & Development of Ultra Wideband Antennas. It analyzes di erent types of monopole antenna to obtain ultrawideband characteristics at di erent frequency bands. The major aim of the project is to study the journey of monopole antenna from broadband to ultra wideband and to perform its transient analysis. A fractional bandwidth of 51% was obtained for EMC triangular monopole an- tenna. By changing the radiator shape from triangular to annular ring the monopole shows a fractional bandwidth of more than 100%. The transient analysis of the EMC triangular monopole antenna shows that it has an omnidirectional radiation pattern. Measured results of the planar monopole antenna, EMC triangular monopole an- tenna and pedestal monopole antenna are reported. The measured results are similar to the simulated results. The conclusion of this report and the future work of the project are presented at the end.en_US
