Abstract: Lean principles and techniques have been applied in a wide variety of organiza- tions, from make-to-stock to engineer-to-order industries, and even in typical service sectors, such as healthcare. In order to apply lean principles in various areas, variants were developed of wellknown techniques, such as Kanban, Kaizen, SMED, 5S etc. In the present work, Lean Technique called SMED is used for reduction of setup time in CNC machines. The aim of the project is to increase productivity by means of decreasing total lead time and increasing exibility in processes. In this work, how implement the SMED methodology, a prerequisites for the implementation of SMED, its steps for implementation are discussed.
