Abstract: | Spherical heads are widely used in pressure vessels and piping systems of petrochem- ical and power plants. Under di erent loading conditions, the stress will occur at the junction area. Due to discontinuity of the geometry and di culties during welding and defect detected there, the junction region will become the weakest point and the failure source of the whole structure. Thus a reliable and accurate analysis method for shell nozzle junction is necessary. This dissertation illustrates stress analysis with and without stress indices at hemi- spherical head to nozzle junction using Welding Research Council(WRC) 107. WRC 107 results validated with PV-CodeCalc (2008) software. But with the case of stress indices stresses are very high in nature. Finite Element Analysis has been performed at Nozzle to head junction using Ansys 12 under internal pressure and external load- ing as per ASME Section VIII Division 2. In industries reactor models are having similarity in geometry. Drawing automation helps in preparing same kind of drawings by utilizing less time and e orts then con- vectional procedure. Reactor nozzle automation has been done using Solid Edge ST-2. |
