Abstract: | At present it is found that thermal pollution is a serious environmental problem. Now as per rules, it is environmentally restricted to discharge of hot water back directly to its source after it has been used. That’s why, it is necessary that hot water must either be cooled before discharge or recycled after cooling. In the past there were some methods like Cooling Ponds, Spray System etc. to cool the hot water, but now a days many types of Cooling Towers, are used to cool the hot water. The Induced Draft Cooling Tower is presently a very good technology used for this purpose. Chapter – 1 covers the literature information about the cooling tower and important aspects related to cooling tower. Chapter – 2 covers Historical Development, basic knowledge and necessity of the cooling tower, its Classification, and its material of construction. Chapter – 3 describes various the components of the cooling tower. It covers Structural components like Fancylinder, Tower structure, Raft Foundation etc., Mechanical Components like Fans, Speed Reducer, Drive Shaft Valves, Fills etc., and Auxiliary Components like Mechanical equipment removal devices, Air inlet Screen. Filtering systems, hot water pipes etc. Chapter – 4 discusses the load calculations. Various loads such as dead load, live load , wind load and seismic load are calculated. Dead load is load acting due to structural components, like fan cylinder, fan deck slab etc. Live load is due to mechanical components, like hot water pipes and its supports, fan breaks etc. Chapter – 5 gives geometry of the structure, and node numbering and member numbering of beams and columns at various levels. Dimensional space frame is analyzed for D.L., L.L., wind / EL using STAAD – Pro software. Tabulation of forces at various levels for beams, columns, and foundation are given in this chapter. Chapter – 6 includes the design of the Structural components like Fan Cylinder, Superstructure Beams, Superstructure Columns, Basin Columns, Raft Foundation etc. Schedule of reinforcement for beams, columns, foundation etc. are also given in this chapter. Chapter – 7 finally discusses the summary and conclusions of the work. Scope of further study is also suggested at last. |
