Abstract: Routing packets from the source to the destination machine is the fundamental function of the network layer. Conventional routing algorithms are not suitable for multimedia applications which have very stringent Quality of Service(QoS). For multimedia appli- cations, it is expected that the router should be able to forward the packet according to the demand of the packet and it is necessary to nd the path that satis es the speci c demand of the particular applications. QoS based routing is a dynamic routing protocol that has expanded its path selection criteria to include QoS parameters such as available bandwidth, link and end-to-end path utilization, node resources consumption, delay and latency, and induced jitter, which are the prime requirement for any Multimedia rout- ing. Routing in ad-hoc mobile network which is a collection of mobile nodes that are dynamically and arbitrarily located in such a manner that the interconnections between nodes are capable of changing on a continual basis, is a big challenge. Ant based algo- rithm are specialized in optimization of routing solution. ACO is a unique approach that is constructive, population based meta-heuristic which exploits an indirect form of mem- ory of previous performance. These combinations of characteristics is not found in other meta-heuristics. Hence implementation of ACO based solution with hybrid Adhoc routing strategy named HMQAnt is proposed, so as to give optimum solution for adaptive and dynamically changing networks. This algorithm would eventually decrease the overhead and route according the bandwidth requirement.
