dc.description.abstract | A series of novel benzimidazole derivatives like 1, 3, 4-thiadiazole; 1, 2, 4-triazole-5-thione and 1, 3, -thiazolan-4-one derivatives containing benzimidazole heterocycle were synthesized by nucleophilic substitution reaction of 2-substituted -1[H] benzimidazole. The structures of the all synthesized compounds were elucidated by spectral analysis. All the synthesized compounds were evaluated in vitro antibacterial activity against three Gram-positive bacteria as Bacillus cereus (MTCC-430), Enterococcus faecalis (MTCC-493), Staphylococcus aureus (MTCC-737) and three Gram-negative bacteria as Escherichia coli (MTCC-1687), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MTCC-2642) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (MTCC-109). Antifungal activity was evaluated against Candida albicans (MTCC-3017), Aspergillus niger (MTCC-1344) and Fusarium oxyspora (MTCC-1755). Some of the synthesized compounds showed good antibacterial and antifungal activities with 2.5μ g/ml and 5.0μ g/ml MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) respectively. | en_US |
