Abstract: Aim of Project, “Application of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) for industries”, is to examine potential scope and opportunity of CDM application for small & medium scale industries. For this purpose one of the “Steel Melting & Rolling Mill Unit” in Gujarat State has been taken as a representative (reference) industry. Objective of project work is to explore Green House Gases (GHGs) reduction potential opportunities, direct or indirect, exist in “Steel Melting & Rolling Mill Unit”. To facilitate same objective “Cleaner Production (CP)”, one of the environmental management tools, has been applied which can be useful to find energy saving or conservation potential. And energy conservation or saving can be related to direct or indirect GHGs reduction. After application of CP to company, it has been found that significant energy saving potential, like annual saving of electricity (29822 KWH) & furnace oil (180340 Kg), exist in company. This energy saving opportunity can also lead to direct or indirect 576.675 tCO2 reduction per year. But this GHG reduction can not be seemed as CDM application opportunity to this particular company because it is not satisfying “Additionality Criterion of the Kyoto Protocol, Article 6 and 12”.
