dc.description.abstractIn recent years rapid industrialization and urbanization all over the country has created a serious problem of solid waste disposal as well as created energy crisis. People are now concentrating more and more on renewable source of energy. One of such technology which is biogas production by anaerobic digestion has attracted considerable interest. Educational institute, community kitchen, hotels and factories produces kitchen waste which is disposed off by composting, spreading on the land or sometimes as an animal feed. Collection, carting and transport of the waste a few kilometers for disposal become uneconomical. Use of this waste for production of biogas is one of solution to this problem. Kitchen waste has a C/N ratio ranges from 26-32 and therefore satisfies the requirement of anaerobic digestion. The digestate slurry remaining after the process can be used as manure or fertilizer. This project discusses the study of the biogas plant based on the canteen solid waste. It also discusses the parameters, which needs to be controlled during the digestion. It also covers some analytical calculation, which shows the amount of the gas generated for known amount of waste as well as the economic viability of the pilot scale plant. Here the experiment is carried out in batch reactor of 200-liter capacity. Results shows that 5 kg/day of waste give generate around 792.2 liter of biogas. Methane content is around 50 to 60 %.the manure available after the process shows good fertilizer value.en
