Abstract: | This case is about Aggarwal Foundry and Engineering Works (AFEW) in Haryana state of India. AFEW manufactures cast iron castings used for tractors and earth moving equipments. The manufacturing firm was started by an engineer four decades ago with no business skills or past experience. The case describes the difficulties faced by Arun Jindal in setting up the foundry, business growth, and the current dilemmas faced by him. The case focuses on key issues in strategic management, production management and marketing management. It is ideally suited for undergraduate and postgraduate management students. The issues of managerial decision making and competition and are also highlighted. The entry of foreign companies in farm, construction, and automobile sector has given business boom to AFEW. In the wake of the emerging challenges, Jindal is exploring opportunities to expand his business and sustain the growth momentum of the company. He has few options available at his discretion. |
