Performance review process, team leadership, problem solving, and communication all require interpersonal skills, and these can be enhanced in training programmes, formal courses, workshops etc. Role plays assist by providing an opportunity to those involved, to practice their skills and improve them. The case is a role play which focuses on the poor performance of Mr Arora (Deputy Manager, Operations) and the performance review session that he has with his boss Mr Suri (General Manager, Operations). Mr Arora, was given two performance standards which he was required to meet. He proved to be an under-achiever on both counts and meets with his boss Mr Suri to discuss the problem and find a solution. The role play may be used with students, executives or trainers to provide insights into the following: (1) general appraisal skills such as questioning, listening, giving positive and negative feedback, and observation of body language; (2) effective communication skills; (3) being an effective team leader; (4) the problem-solving process; and (5) role play for pedagogy for trainers.en_US
