Abstract: The case is about Ruby Woolens Ltd, where the workers were working round the clock in three shifts. The major issue of concern was cost reduction, for which the introduction of multiskilling was suggested by the manager, to reduce the number of employees. The plan to introduce multiskilling met tough resistance from the workers as it would directly lead to layoffs. The management decided to impart behavioural training to the employees to have the mindset for acceptability of multiskilling. But the question before management was how to proceed if multiskilling was the only solution for cost reduction. The objective of the case is to make the participants / students learn about the importance of multiskilling as a solution for cost reduction. The issues involved are multiskilling, cost reduction and resistance to change. The group analysis will require 3 members in each group. The participants / students should have a clear understanding about the consequences of resistance to change.
